What is a Health Coach?

A Health Coach serves as an active and supportive listener and guide, allowing you to discover your own challenges and solutions to improve your health. We focus on the present and future, and assist with making obtainable and sustainable changes to reach your goals. Overall, we assist you to identify areas of your life that are impacting your health – and develop a plan to make improvements. 

 

Why do I need a Health Coach?

Health Coaching is about treating the whole person, not just focusing on food. Much of the work is guiding conversations to help you identify areas of your life that need attention. You’ll benefit from recommendations for basic health-supportive changes and receive encouragement to adapt healthy behavior adjustments, be accountable for your choices and get support. What works for one, does not work for everyone – so a customized plan is put in place just for you. 

 

What is the scope of your practice?

Health Coaches will work with you to refine your diet to healthier whole food choices and assist you (along with your physician’s guidance) to improve your health. Sometimes even the products you use may need an adjustment. Health Coaches do not diagnosis or treat medical issues or eating disorders, and do not prescribe branded diets or any medications. 

 

How long is the program?

A six-month schedule is often recommended, with sessions twice a month (at a location we choose; I do not currently consult from a public office). This length of time has shown to have the most positive long-term results as we establish an active plan and take advantage of momentum. Of course, you can keep going well beyond six months – I offer a variety of packages, including on-going maintenance.  

 

What else is included?

In addition to private sessions, I offer group seminars and classes covering a variety of health related topics, email support between sessions, handouts and other essential materials, including fitness and nutrition guides, and meaningful words of wisdom. You’ll also receive my monthly newsletter with tips, advice and inspiration.
